(English below) In che modo gli scienziati affrontano un problema da risolvere? Lo si potrà scoprire durante la Science Battle, il 24 settembre 2021, in cui i ricercatori dell’Università di Pavia sfideranno i team di Poitiers (Francia) e Turku (Finlandia). Tre squadre cercheranno di rispondere alle domande più disparate e curiose presentate dal pubblico. La “battaglia” potrà essere seguita online o in presenza nelle rispettive università.
La Science Battle è un evento giocoso, che mostra al pubblico in modo concreto come i ricercatori affrontano un nuovo quesito e dimostrano il processo di conduzione della ricerca. Il gioco è stato creato nel 2016 presso l’Università di Turku e ora si espanderà come una battaglia all’interno dell’alleanza European Campus of City-Universities (EC2U).
A Pavia, la Science Battle si svolgerà venerdì 24 settembre 2021 presso l’aula 400 dell’Università degli Studi di Pavia, Via Leonardo da Vinci n.6, dalle 15.00 alle 18.00.
Chi vorrà partecipare, potrà registrarsi all’evento attraverso questo form online e potrà interagire con i partecipanti con suggerimenti e domande.
Ci sarà anche la possibilità di seguire l’evento online a questo link Zoom; in questo caso il pubblico avrà anche la possibilità di votare la squadra migliore!
Ciascuna delle università ha raggruppato un team di ricercatori di diverse discipline, background e livelli di ricerca, ma tutti accomunati dalla voglia di avventurarsi nel rispondere alle domande più varie (potrebbero non essere le più serie, ma sicuramente le più interessanti!).
Il team di Pavia sarà composto da: Alessandro Bacchetta, fisico teorico; Francesca Guma, docente di filosofia; Francesca Sanguineti, ricercatrice del Dipartimento di Scienze economiche e aziendali; Mattia Gilio, ricercatore del Dipartimento di Scienze della Terra e dell’Ambiente; Rachele di Giuseppe, ricercatrice in biochimica e scienze dell’alimentazione; Tullio Facchinetti, ingegnere informatico.
L’evento sarà moderato da: Andrea Zatti, Docente di Politiche pubbliche e ambientali, e Agnese Marchini, Docente di ecologia.
Il pubblico svolge un ruolo importante nella realizzazione della Science Battle: ha già fornito decine di domande e curiosità, e quelle più accattivanti, curiose e interessanti sono state selezionate per il concorso… che la sfida abbia inizio!

How does a scientist tackle a new challenging problem to get to a solution? You can witness this in the Science Battle competition, on 24th September! The researchers from the University of Pavia will challenge the teams from Poitiers (France) and Turku (Finland).
Three teams will try to solve the most diverse and curious questions submitted by the public. The competition can be followed online or on-site on university campuses.
Science Battle is a game-like event which shows the public in a concrete way how researchers tackle a new research question and demonstrate the process of conducting research. The game was created in 2016 at the University of Turku, Finland, and will now expand as a battle between the alliance European Campus of City-Universities (EC2U).
For the Pavia team, the battle will take place on 24th September 2021 in Aula 400 of the University of Pavia, Via Leonardo da Vinci n.6, from 3 pm to 6 pm.
To attend the event in presence, you can register event through this online form and will be able to interact with the participants for suggestions and questions.
There will also be the possibility to follow the event online at this Zoom link: the public will have also the chance to vote for the best team!
Each of the universities has put together a team of researchers from different disciplines and at different stages of their research careers, still having in common the willingness to get challenged by the most diverse questions referring to any fields…they may not be the most serious ones, but the most interesting ones, surely!
The Pavia team will be composed of: Alessandro Bacchetta, theoretical physicist; Francesca Guma, professor of philosophy; Francesca Sanguineti, researcher, Department of Economics and Management; Mattia Gilio, researcher, Department Science of the earth; Rachele di Giuseppe, biochemistry and food science researcher; Tullio Facchinetti, computer engineer.
The event will be host by: Andrea Zatti, Professor of public and environmental policies, and Agnese Marchini, Professor of ecology.
The public plays an important role in the implementation of the Science Battle. The first EC2UScienceBattle received dozens of questions collected from the audience and the most interesting ones were selected for the competition…let the challenge begin!
