(English below) Si avvicinano le date del training e della Hackathon di Nextflow e della comunità di nf-core: entrambi gli eventi sono gratuiti e la partecipazione è possibile online.
Nextflow è uno strumento sempre piu diffuso per la gestione dei flussi di lavoro, i cui punti di forza sono la scalabilità e la riproducibilità delle analisi (https://nextflow.io).
nf-core è una comunità che sviluppa e mantiene pipelines di analisi secondo standard curati di best-practice (https://nf-co.re), abbracciando un ampio spettro di campi della bioinformatica che includono la genomica, la metagenomica, la trascrittomica, la proteomica e la metabolomica.
Il training di Nextflow e della comunità di nf-core sarà trasmesso in streaming dal 13 al 16 marzo 2023, e coprirà i concetti di base necessari per la scrittura e l’esecuzione di pipelines di Nextflow e nf-core. Non è necessaria alcuna esperienza esistente con questi strumenti per partecipare, ma una comprensione del linguaggio di bash e della scrittura di pipelines renderà più facile l’acquisizione dei concetti che verranno insegnati.
L’hackathon si terrà online dal 27 al 29 marzo. Si tratta di un evento che si svolge due volte all’anno, in cui la comunità di nf-core si incontra online per una tre giorni di hacking su tutte le tematiche di nf-core. Una minima esperienza con Nextflow e nf-core è suggerita ma ci sono un sacco di attività che nuovi membri della comunità possono svolgere, se desiderano iniziare a contribuire in un ambiente caratterizzato dal supporto e dalla collaborazione con gli altri.
Per supportare ulteriormente lo svolgimento dell’hackathon, l’Italia ospiterà un “hub locale” dell’evento, a Pavia presso il Dipartimento di Biologia e Biotecnologie. Si tratta di luoghi dove i membri della comunità possono ritrovarsi e partecipare assieme all’evento online.
È un’esperienza divertente, un’occasione per entrare in contatto con persone sulla stessa lunghezza d’onda e – se veramente non te la senti di contribuire al codice – c’è sempre bisogno di aiuto per migliorare la documentazione, i tutorial o il sito web.

Nextflow and nf-core community training and hackathon are approaching: both events are free and can be attended online.
Nextflow is a highly popular workflow system that emphasises scalable and reproducible scientific workflows (https://nextflow.io).
nf-core is a community that builds and maintains best-practices curated analysis pipelines (https://nf-co.re), spanning a wide range of bioinformatics domains that include genomics, metagenomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics.
The Nextflow and nf-core community training is being streamed on the 13th-16th March and will cover the basic concepts for writing and running pipelines with Nextflow and nf-core. Prior experience with these tools are not required but an understanding of bash and writing pipelines will make it easier to understand the concepts being taught.
The hackathon is being held online on the 27th-29th of March. It is a biannual event where the nf-core community gather online for 3 days of hacking all things nf-core. Some experience with Nextflow and nf-core is desirable but there are lots of tasks for new community members who want to start contributing in a supportive environment.
To support the online for the hackathon further, Italy will be hosting one ‘local hub’ for the event in Pavia at the Department of Biology and Biotechnology. These are sites where community members can gather and attend the online event together.
It is a fun experience, a chance to be in touch with lots of like-minded people and – should you really not feel like contributing code – there’s always help wanted for improving documents, tutorials, and the website.
