(English below) Nei giorni 23 e 24 gennaio si è tenuta a Bruxelles la conferenza “Reflecting on peace in Ukraine: long term narratives, war of disinformation, peace diplomacy and peace building”, co-organizzata da Coimbra Group e dall’alleanza europea EC2U.
L’evento ha riunito diversi esperti internazionali per confrontarsi e dibattere sul tema della pace in Ucraina, analizzando da un punto di vista storico e contemporaneo le due differenti narrative sul conflitto, lo scontro tra queste e il tema della disinformazione.
Tra i relatori di spicco, la conferenza ha coinvolto due professori dell’alleanza EC2U e membri del gruppo di lavoro Social Sciences & Humanities di Coimbra Group: la professoressa Ilaria Poggiolini (Università di Pavia) – coordinatrice scientifica dell’evento, e il professore Raùl Sànchez Prieto (Universidad de Salamanca). I relatori hanno affrontato i temi della mediazione tra Ucraina e Russia, la protezione e la sicurezza delle vittime civili nonché il raggiungimento tempestivo di una tregua stabile che faccia da fondamenta a un definitivo processo di pacificazione.
La giornata del 23 gennaio si è aperta con un intervento del professore Sànchez Prieto che ha esaminato il passato delle due nazioni, in particolare da un punto di vista storico, politico e bellico, e le occasioni in cui queste si erano già schierate l’una contro l’altra.
Nella giornata seguente, la professoressa Poggiolini ha invece trattato il ruolo delle fake news, dell’incalzante disinformazione e dei media in questo conflitto.
L’evento si è svolto all’insegna dei valori di Coimbra Group e EC2U, come il raggiungimento di una cooperazione internazionale volta alla pace e alla crescita sociale e culturale anche attraverso l’implementazione della mobilità, la comunicazione, l’istruzione e la conoscenza.

Professor Ilaria Poggiolini at the conference “Reflecting on peace in Ukraine”
On January 23 and 24, the conference “Reflecting on peace in Ukraine: long term narratives, war of disinformation, peace diplomacy and peace building”, co-organised by Coimbra Group and the European alliance EC2U, took place in Bruxelles.
The event gathered several international experts to discuss and debate the theme of peace in Ukraine, analysing the two different narratives of the conflict from a historical and contemporary point of view, the clash of these two narratives, and the theme of disinformation.
Among the leading speakers, the conference involved two professors from the EC2U Alliance and the Social Sciences & Humanities Working Group of the Coimbra Group, professor Ilaria Poggiolini (University of Pavia) – scientific coordinator of the event, and professor Raùl Sànchez Prieto (Universidad de Salamanca). The speakers examined the theme of mediation between Ukraine and Russia, the protection and safety of civilians, and the urgence to achieve a stable ceasefire that can work as foundations for the pacification process.
On the 23rd of January, professor Sànchez Prieto examined the past of the two nations, in particular from a historical, political, and military point of view, and the events in which the two countries already sided against each other.
The following day, professor Poggiolini discussed the role of the fake news, the pressing disinformation, and the media in this conflict.
The event was organised in the spirit of Coimbra Group and EC2U’s values, such as the achievement of international cooperation aimed at peace, as well as social and cultural growth, also through the implementation of mobility, communication, education, and knowledge.
