(English below) L’European Campus of City-Universities (EC2U) ha ricevuto un nuovo finanziamento di 14,4 milioni di euro nell’ambito del bando European Universities 2023 (ERASMUS-EDU-2023-EUR-UNIV) lanciato dalla Commissione Europea.
Finanziata nel 2020, l’Alleanza EC2U sta creando un campus paneuropeo che collega comunità accademiche, cittadini e stakeholder e sta rafforzando il legame reciproco tra le università aderenti, le rispettive città e le realtà economiche locali.
Sin dalla sua creazione, l’Alleanza EC2U ha deciso di promuovere un’iniziativa globale basata su sfide incentrate sugli Obiettivi di sviluppo sostenibile (SDG) delle Nazioni Unite. Tre SDG hanno guidato le attività durante i primi anni dell’Alleanza: salute e benessere (SDG n. 3), istruzione di qualità (SDG n. 4), città e comunità sostenibili (SDG n. 11). È proprio attorno a questi SDG che EC2U ha sviluppato tre programmi di master congiunti, con percorsi di apprendimento flessibili e multidisciplinari e schemi di mobilità in tutte le sedi dell’alleanza, e anche tre istituti virtuali, che accrescono la cooperazione in educazione, ricerca e innovazione.
L’Alleanza EC2U estenderà ora il suo campo di applicazione a un quarto obiettivo: pace, giustizia e istituzioni forti (SDG n. 16).
Finora l’Alleanza è stata composta da 7 università europee: Università di Coimbra (Portogallo), Università di Iași (Romania), Università di Jena (Germania), Università di Pavia (Italia), Università di Poitiers (Francia) – coordinatore del progetto -, Università di Salamanca (Spagna) e Università di Turku (Finlandia).
Grazie al rinnovato finanziamento europeo, EC2U ha adesso l’opportunità di rafforzare la propria comunità attraverso l’integrazione di nuove università, a partire dall’Università Johannes Kepler di Linz (Austria). La crescita dell’Alleanza EC2U non si fermerà qui poiché accoglierà un ulteriore nuovo membro accademico nei prossimi anni.
Con il crescere dell’Alleanza, i partner associati, che già comprendono le municipalità e le associazioni studentesche delle Università partner, si estenderanno anche a piccole e grandi aziende e ospedali universitari.
Inoltre, già nel 2022, il network si è rafforzato, associandosi con l’Università Ivan Franko di Lviv (Ucraina), estendendo la portata dell’Alleanza oltre l’Unione Europea e confermando il suo sostegno al popolo ucraino.
EC2U riunisce ad oggi una comunità di oltre 200.000 studenti e più di 25.000 membri del personale universitario, che raggiunge più di 2.000.000 di cittadini. Accogliendo un nuovo membro e raddoppiando il numero di partner associati, l’Alleanza continua a rispondere alle sfide della società attraverso una maggiore collaborazione con le parti interessate europee.
“L’Alleanza EC2U rappresenta un importante volano internazionale per il nostro Ateneo ed il suo rifinanziamento da parte della Comunità Europea conferma i risultati eccellenti raggiunti nei primi tre anni di attività e la bontà del progetto di consolidamento previsto nei prossimi anni attraverso una sempre più stretta interconnessione tra gli Atenei europei che compongono l’Alleanza.
EC2U ha dimostrato e sempre più lo farà in futuro di avere un impatto trasversale non solo su tutte le componenti della nostra comunità accademica ma anche sul territorio pavese, grazie al coinvolgimento di nuovi stakeholders quali il Policlinico San Matteo, Assolombarda, il CUS e AISEC che si aggiungono ad altri partner già consolidati, quali il Comune di Pavia, il Polo Tecnologico, ESN e CIMEA”.

La Prorettrice all’Internazionalizzazione, Prof.ssa Antonella Forlino, nell’apprendere del rinnovo del finanziamento ha commentato:
“Ho accolto la notizia con grandissima gioia ed entusiasmo. Le Relazioni Internazionali in collaborazione con tutte le Aree dell’Ateneo sono impegnate da tre anni nel portare avanti l’Alleanza EC2U finanziata nel 2020. Si è trattato di un lavoro di squadra, un successo per la nostra Università. Il rifinanziamento di EC2U apre uno scenario nuovo, stimolante e ancora più impegnativo poiché cresce il numero di partner e si estende l’orizzonte temporale. Sarà una bella sfida che siamo pronti ad accettare, confermando che l’Università di Pavia è sicuramente protagonista dello scenario universitario internazionale ed europeo e contribuisce alla definizione di quella che sarà l’università europea del futuro”.

The European Campus of City-Universities (EC2U) has received new funding of 14.4 million euros under the European Universities 2023 call (ERASMUS-EDU-2023-EUR-UNIV) launched by the European Commission.
Funded in 2020, the EC2U Alliance is creating a pan-European campus connecting academic communities, citizens and stakeholders and is strengthening the mutual link between member universities, their cities and local businesses.
Since its creation, the EC2U Alliance has set out to foster a global challenge-based initiative centered around the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Three SDGs guided activities during the early years of the Alliance: health and well-being (SDG #3), quality education (SDG #4), and sustainable cities and communities (SDG #11). It is precisely around these SDGs that EC2U has developed three joint masters programmes, with flexible and multidisciplinary learning paths and mobility schemes in all alliance locations, as well as three virtual institutes, which enhance cooperation in education, research and innovation.
The EC2U Alliance will now extend its scope to a fourth goal: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (SDG #16).
So far the Alliance has been composed of 7 European universities: University of Coimbra (Portugal), University of Iași (Romania), University of Jena (Germany), University of Pavia (Italy), University of Poitiers (France) – project coordinator -, University of Salamanca (Spain) and University of Turku (Finland).
Thanks to the renewed European funding, EC2U now has the opportunity to strengthen its community through the integration of new universities, starting with the Johannes Kepler University of Linz (Austria). The growth of the EC2U Alliance will not stop there as it will welcome one more new academic member in the coming years.
As the Alliance grows, the associated partners, which already include the municipalities and student associations of the partner universities, will also extend to small and large companies and teaching hospitals.
Furthermore, already in 2022, the network has strengthened, associating with the Ivan Franko University of Lviv (Ukraine), extending the reach of the Alliance beyond the European Union and confirming its support for the Ukrainian people.
EC2U currently brings together a community of more than 200,000 students and more than 25,000 university staff members, reaching more than 2,000,000 citizens. Welcoming a new member and doubling the number of associated partners, the Alliance continues to respond to societal challenges through increased collaboration with European stakeholders.
