(English below) All’inizio di dicembre 2022 il Dipartimento di Scienze della Terra e dell’Ambiente dell’Università di Pavia ha firmato il rinnovo annuale di un importante accordo educativo con Petroleum Experts Limited.
La società Petroleum Experts Limited da anni supporta le attività di ricerca e insegnamento del Dipartimento di Scienze della Terra e dell’Ambiente fornendo gratuitamente 10 licenze del sofware Move Suite.
Si tratta di un pacchetto di software e codici che permettono di trattare dati di sottosuolo, creando modelli 3D di strutture geologiche e che consentono analisi e operazioni di tipo geologico strutturale. Il software, nato per un utilizzo dedicato alla geologia degli idrocarburi si è progressivamente evoluto e ampliato includendo moduli dedicati al rischio sismico, alla modellizzazione di giacimenti minerari, all’analisi di ammassi rocciosi, all’analisi di stress e fratturazione, all’analisi di faglie.
Attualmente il software Suite Move è capillarmente diffuso nella comunità scientifica sia a livello accademico che industriale e si tratta di uno strumento utilizzato da oltre 400 industrie e altrettante realtà di ricerca.
Fornendo 10 licenze accademiche, Petex sta fornendo gratuitamente al nostro Ateneo un prodotto che ha un valore commerciale pari a 1.872.218 sterline inglesi, l’equivalente di 2.200.000 euro circa, contribuendo quindi concretamente a sostenere e migliorare le nostre attività di ricerca e avvicinando le attività didattiche alle competenze richieste ai laureati in Scienze Geologiche.
Il software verrà installato sia sui pc dei ricercatori (docenti e dottorandi) che correntemente trattano dati di sottosuolo e sui computer del laboratorio informatico del Dipartimento di Scienze della Terra e dell’Ambiente in modo che studenti, studenti di dottorato e tutte le attività didattiche possano trarne vantaggio.

Petroleum Experts Limited has been supporting the research and teaching activities of the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences for years by providing 10 licenses of the Move Suite sofware free of charge.
This is a package of software and codes that enable the processing of subsurface data, creating 3-D models of geological structures and structural geological analysis. The software, initially created for uses in hydrocarbon geology, gradually evolved and expanded to include modules dedicated to seismic risk, mining reservoir modeling, rock mass analysis, stress and fracture analysis, and fault analysis.
Currently, Move is widely used in the scientific community at both academic and industrial levels, and it is used by more than 400 industries and many research organizations.
By providing 10 academic licenses, Petex is providing our University with a product that has a commercial value of 1,872,218 British pounds, the equivalent of about 2,200,000 euros, free of charge, thus contributing concretely to supporting and improving our research activities and bringing teaching activities closer to the skills required to Geological Sciences graduate students.
The software will be installed on the computers of the computer laboratory of the Earth and Environmental Sciences Department so that students, phd students and all teaching activities can get advantage of it.
